Women's Track and Field Competes at BU Terrier Classic

The Holy Cross women's track and field team competed at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday, January 25.

Junior Allie Smiley had a New England-qualifying mark in the long jump at 5.64 meters – falling just short of an ECAC qualifying mark – for a fourth-place finish. She also posted a personal best of 10.86 meters in the triple jump. Senior Alexandra Curtin had a season best in the long jump to place fifth and record a New England-qualifying mark of 5.54 meters.

Senior Sarah Friess ran a New England-qualifying mark of 25.60 seconds in the 200 meters, placing 26th overall. In a field of 157 runners, Curtin (35th, 25.76 seconds), Smiley (56th, 26.07) and freshman KC Grady (70th, 26.28) all ran season bests in the 200.

Junior Allison McArdle (19th, 2:58.39) and freshman Sophia Maynard (32nd, 3:03.16) both ran personal records and qualified for New Englands in the 1,000 meter run.

Sophomore Elizabeth Graves qualified for New Englands in the 5,000 meter run, recording a personal best of 18:14.01 and placing 30th. Freshman Michaela Halloran (31st, 18:21.61) and sophomore Caitlin Tzimorotas (35th, 18:34.26) both ran personal bests in the 5K as well.

Junior Caroline Frey (42nd, 58.99 seconds), freshman Milly O'Brien (43rd, 59.33), senior Lauren Rasmus (44th, 59.38), freshman Kelsey O'Hara (48th, 59.53) and freshman Sam Carroll (65th, 1:00.09) all ran season bests in the 400 meter dash. In the 800 meters, sophomore Marina MacKinnon had a season-best time of 2:18.62 to place 44th overall.

Sophomore Claire Hanlon added in a season best in the 3,000 meter run, posting a time of 10:29.94 and placing 57th overall.

Sophomore Abbie Mokwuah had a seventh-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.29 meters, while recording a mark of 12.56 meters to place 11th in the shot put.

The Crusaders will next be in action on February 1 and 2 at the New England Championships, to be held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
