Three records broken, 10 medals won at NEICAAA Outdoor Championship

Women's 4x100m, Kulis and Genchos break school records

AMHERST, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams competed at the New England Outdoor Championship hosted by UMass Amherst at UMass Track & Field Complex on May 10. The men's team came in 11th out of 30 teams and the women's team finished in third out of 29 competing squads.

The men took home 21 points and the women tallied 92 points in the meet.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The 4x400m relay team, including senior captain Molly O'Connor, freshman Abby Desmarais, junior Alex Lusby and senior captain Haley Murphy, broke the school record with a time of 3:45.73 for second and the silver medal. Sophomore Annabel Murray, Murphy, Lusby and O'Connor previously set the record (3:45.99) on May 3, 2025, at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
  • Junior Celia Kulis broke the 100m hurdles school record with a time of 13.66 to clinch second and the silver medal. The previous record (13.84) was set by senior Ella Grey on May 3, 2025, at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship. Grey claimed third and the bronze medal in the event with a time of 13.95.
  • Murphy took home the gold medal in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.44.
  • Lusby won the 800m run for the gold medal with a time of 2:11.48.
  • Senior captain Maura Switzer clinched the silver medal in the pole vault, clearing 3.97m.
  • Senior captain Abby Hughes crossed the finish in 4:27.33 while competing in the 1500m run to take second and the silver medal..
  • Sophomore Grace Ryan claimed the bronze medal in the javelin with a mark of 40.19m.
  • Desmarais (11.81, fourth) and junior Giavanna Ciaravino (11.94, seventh) both competed in the 100m dash.
  • O'Connor took fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 56.09.
  • Sophomore Siena Brunetti placed fourth in the 5000m with a time of 17:15.64.
  • Freshman Lily Deforge finished seventh in the shot put (12.96m) and ninth in the discus (40.04m).
  • Junior Ester Mokonchu placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.66m.
  • The 4x100m relay team, including Ciaravino, O'Connor, freshman Danielle DiEsso and Desmarais, finished sixth in the event with a time of 47.09.
  • The 4x800m relay team, including Murray, junior Fiona Doherty, senior Shannon Jordan and Hughes, came in fourth in the event with a time of 9:19.02.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Freshman Josh Gentchos broke his own outdoor 200m school record with a time of 21.59 to place sixth in the event. He previously set the record (21.81) at the Julie LaFreniere Commonwealth Invitational on May 13, 2025.
  • Senior captain Brian Fennelly clinched second and the silver medal in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.11.
  • Sophomore Matthew Perkins claimed third and the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.73.
  • The 4x100m relay team, including Fennelly, senior captain Aidan Bergin, freshman Iain DeBoth and Gentchos, placed sixth in the event with a time of 41.74.
  • The all sophomore 4x400m relay team, including Perkins, Luke Boothroyd, Logan Mott and Tristan Miller, came in sixth place with a time of 3:22.52.

NEXT UP:

  • The Holy Cross track and field teams conclude the 2025 outdoor season and return next winter for the 2025-26 indoor season.
