Crusaders Complete Weekend Sweep Of Lafayette With 7-6 Victory Sunday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team (15-16, 9-7) capped off its weekend with a 7-6 win over Lafayette (13-28, 2-15) on the road Sunday to complete their sweep of the Leopards.

Seven different Crusaders crossed the plate, while five registered RBIs. Freshman Cam Meyer, sophomore Chris Rinaldi, senior Cam O'Neill, senior Thomas Russo and sophomore Jared Enders each registered a run scored and an RBI in the win. Meyer, Russo and Enders also each registered two hits in the game. Trey Durrah led the offense for Lafayette, batting 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Junior Declan Cronin improved to 3-3 on the season with the win Sunday, allowing five earned runs in seven innings and tossing five strikeouts. Sophomore Zane Hedaya picked up his first save of the season, throwing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. David Giusti was credited with the loss for the Leopards, allowing two unearned runs in 2.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lafayette got off to a strong start in the bottom of the first, posting four runs on five hits to take an early lead.
  • The Crusaders responded in the next inning, adding three runs on three hits to immediately cut the deficit. Russo and Enders each posted RBI doubles in the inning, while Rinaldi also brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.
  • Holy Cross pulled into the lead in the fourth inning, as Meyer and Rinaldi both found their way home on errors.
  • The Leopards added a run in the fourth to tie the game up at 5-5.
  • The Crusaders regained the lead with a run in both the sixth and seventh innings. O'Neill notched his fifth home run of the season in the sixth, while Enders scored in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Meyer.
  • Lafayette started the bottom of the eighth with a leadoff home run and managed to load the bases, but Hedaya and the Holy Cross defense managed to end the inning and hold on to their one run lead.
