WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team took a pair of losses to Bucknell on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action.

GAME ONE

Holy Cross (12-15, 6-6) was held to just two hits in its 6-0 loss to the Bison (11-21, 8-7) in game one. Junior Alex Gionis batted 1-for-2 in the game, while sophomore Chris Rinaldi went 1-for-3 at the plate. Dominic Toso led the way for Bucknell, hitting 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Luke Hartman drove in a pair of runs while batting 2-for-3.

Connor Van Hoose earned the win for the Bison, pitching seven scoreless innings while tallying 12 strikeouts. Freshman Liam Dvorak was credited with the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bucknell got the scoring started in the third, as Toso found his way home from first base on an RBI double from Hartman.
  • The Bison added three more runs in the fourth inning, with one run coming off an RBI single from Luke Johnson and two more on walks with the bases loaded.
  • Evan Klugerman found his way home in the fifth off a wild pitch to make it a 5-0 game.
  • Bucknell added its last run of the game in the sixth, As Toso hit a solo home run over the left field fence.

GAME TWO

The Bison broke a 1-1 tie in the ninth inning to take control of the lead and earn a narrow victory in game two. Sophomore Alex Volpi led the offense for Holy Cross, tallying the lone run for the Crusaders with a solo home run. Senior Cam O'Neill and freshman Cam Meyer also notched one hit each in the loss. Toso and PJ Strahm both crossed the plate for Bucknell, while Keifer Rawlings notched a pair of RBIs.

Jeff Gottesman earned the win for the Bison, allowing one run in eight innings and posting 11 stirkeouts. Sophomore Danny Barlok was credited with the loss after allowing one run in the ninth inning. Junior Pat McGowan allowed one run in eight innings while tossing six strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After three scoreless inning, Bucknell broke the tie with a sacrifice fly from Rawlings to bring home Toso.
  • Volpi tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth with his second home run of the season in the first at-bat of the frame.
  • After holding the Bison without a hit through the next three innings, Holy Cross allowed the game-winning run in the top of the ninth, as Rawlings managed to bring home Strahm with a sacrifice fly.

UP NEXT

  • Holy Cross returns to action tomorrow, April 15, as the Crusaders host Bucknell in the final game of their weekend series at 1:05 p.m.
