CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sophomore Riley Livingston crossed the plate twice as the Holy Cross baseball team earned a 5-0 win Friday night to start their series at Charleston Southern.

Livingston helped to lead the Crusaders' (3-8) offense, batting 3-for-5 while scoring two runs in the win. Junior Alex Gionis went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Freshman David Kale led Holy Cross with three RBIs while hitting 1-for-4. Sophomore Austin Masel and freshman Peter Dudunakis also crossed the plate for the Crusaders. Kyle Vesnesky led the offense for Charleston Southern (6-9), batting 2-for-4 on the night.

Junior Pat McGowan earned the second win of his career, pitching seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and tossing four strikeouts. Freshman Kyle Johnson pitched two scoreless innings in relief while allowing two hits. Nik Constantakos took the loss for the Bucs, allowing five runs on eight hits through 3.2 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Following a scoreless first inning, the Crusaders were the first team on the board in the second inning, as Kale reached on a fielder's choice to bring home Livingston from third.
  • The Crusaders extended their lead in the top of the third, as they brought home four runs on five hits. Dudunakis hit an RBI single to bring home Masel from second before Gionis brought home Livingston with a single. Kale then singled through the right side to earn a pair of RBIs, as Gionis and Dudunakis each scored on the play.
  • Through the next four innings, McGowan and the Crusaders' defense held Charleston Southern to just two hits.
  • The Bucs managed to earn a hit in each inning with Johnson on the mound, but could not get a runner past first base.

UP NEXT
