LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Holy Cross baseball team earned a split in its doubleheader with Bucknell on Sunday afternoon, taking game two 9-4 after falling 5-0 in the first game of the day.
GAME ONE
The Crusaders (7-10, 2-2) were held scoreless for just the second time this season, as they fell 5-0 in the first game with the Bison (5-17, 2-6). Junior Alex Gionis led Holy Cross at the plate, batting 2-for-3 for the game. Freshman Cam Meyer also reached base twice, hitting 1-for-2 and earning a walk. Bucknell was led by Chuckie Scales, who hit 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Keifer Rawlings also had a strong day offensively for the Bison, batting 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Junior Declan Cronin took the loss for the Crusaders, allowing five runs on six hits through five innings with seven strikeouts. Jack Grabek earned the win for Bucknell, pitching 6.2 scoreless innings while throwing three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bucknell opened up the scoring in the second inning, adding three runs on three hits. Sclaes brought in two runs with a double before Dominic Toso sent another run home with a single up the middle.
- Holy Cross managed to get two runners on base in the third with two outs, but could not bring anyone across the plate.
- In the fifth, the Bison added two more runs with RBI single and a score off a sacrifice bunt.
- The Crusaders threatened with the bases loaded in the seventh with two outs, but could not force a runner home.

GAME TWO
Six different Crusaders found their way across the plate in game two. Senior Cam O'Neill helped lead the offense batting 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Freshman David Kale also had a strong outing, hitting 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Sophomore Jared Enders hit 1-for-4 with three RBIs, while sophomore Chris Rinaldi and junior Alex Gionis both crossed the plate twice. Luke Johnson led the way for Bucknell, hitting 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Freshman Liam Dvorak earned the first win of his career, allowing one run in 4.2 innings of relief while posting five strikeouts. Jack Simpson took the loss for the Bison, allowing six runs through five innings with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bucknell was the first team on the board, as they brought home a run off a sacrifice fly in the first before posting two more runs in the second to make it 3-0.
- Holy Cross' offense put together a five-run performance in the third inning, which included six hits. O'Neill brought home two runners on a single, while Enders cleared the bases later on with a triple down the right field line.
- The Crusaders added another run in the fourth, as O'Neill hit an RBI single to score Kale.
- Dvorak took over with the bases loaded in the fifth, then earned a strikeout and forced the final batter to fly out to center field.
- After the Bison added a run in the sixth, Meyer and Gionis each crossed the plate in the eighth to extend the lead for Holy Cross.
- The Crusaders added their final run of the game in the ninth, as Meyer brought home Rinaldi with an RBI single.
