LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, but came up short to Bucknell, 72-63 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Infiniti Thomas-Waheed led the Crusaders (10-16, 5-10) with 22 points and eight rebounds, shooting 8-for-16 on the day. Sophomore Lauren Manis posted 19 points and added seven rebounds with four steals and three assists. Sophomore Megan Swords set new career-highs with 15 points and six field goals made. The Bison (18-8, 12-3) were led by Kaitlyn Slagus, who posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kyi English and Ellie Mack also had strong games for the Bison, posting 10 points each.
Bucknell shot 44.8% (26-58) from the field, while the Crusaders hit 39.7% (23-58) of their attempts. From three-point range, Holy Cross shot 28.6% (4-14) while holding the Bison to 20.0% (3-15). Bucknell shot 65.4% (17-26) from the free throw line while the Crusaders posted 65.0% (13-20) at the charity stripe.
WOMAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES
- Following the game, Thomas-Waheed was selected as the Woman of the Match presented the United States Marines.
- She led the Crusaders with 22 points and eight rebounds while shooting 8-for-16.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After both teams battled back and forth early in the first quarter, Bucknell used an 11-0 run to gain control of the lead and head into the second up 22-9.
- The Bison continued to push in the second, outscoring Holy Cross 22-8 to head into the locker room with a 44-17 lead at halftime.
- The Crusaders responded in the third quarter with a solid offensive push, outscoring Bucknell 16-13 to cut the deficit.
- Holy Cross put together a stellar fourth quarter, putting together a 15-3 run and outscoring the Bison 30-15 in the final frame. The Crusaders cut the deficit to as few as eight points in the final minute, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit set by Bucknell.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The 30 points scored by the Crusaders in the fourth quarter were the most scored by Holy Cross in a single quarter this season.
- The Crusaders shot 54.8% (17-31) in the second half, and 68.8% (11-16) in the fourth quarter.
- The Bison posted 29 points off turnovers, while holding Holy Cross to 14.
