Men's Hockey to Host No. 3 Providence

The Crusaders will host the Friars on Nov. 3 at the Hart Center for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.

Talking Points

Matt Barry leads the Crusaders with seven points in five games played. The freshman forward has been tabbed as Atlantic Hockey's Rookie of the Month for his performance through the opening five games.
Barry leads the league in points per game and ranks fifth nationally among freshmen. He also leads Atlantic Hockey in points.
Johnny Coughlin is averaging 1.20 points per game, tying him for the 13th most points amongst the nation's defensemen.
Coughlin has recorded five assists so far in his 2018-19 campaign, ranking him tied for 23rd in the nation in assists per game (1.00).
With a 3.60 goals for average, Holy Cross ranks 17th.
Having scored four goals on 19 opportunities, the Crusaders hold a 21.1% conversion rate on the power play.
The Crusaders played just one game last weekend, traveling to Bentley on Oct. 26. Holy Cross dropped the game, 7-4 after a flurry of power play goals in the second period.

Johnny Coughlin leads the defensive core and ranks second on the team with six points on one goal and five assists.
Frank Boie recorded a career-high at Bentley with two goals. The sophomore blueliner ranks fifth in Atlantic Hockey defensive scoring and leads the league in conference goals scored along with teammate Barry.
Couglin leads all Atlantic Hockey defensemen with five points in league play.
Logan Milliken is the fourth member of the defensive core to score, adding his first career tally on Oct. 26 at Bentley.
Accounting for 19 of the team's 45 points so far, the Crusader defensive is responsible fore 42% of the team's offense.

Freshman Impact

Through five games, eight freshman have seen significant ice time.
Having scored five goals as a class, the freshman are responsible for 27% of the Crusaders' offense.
In the Crusaders' opening weekend against Canisius, Barry, Anthony Vincent, and Matt Slick earned their way onto the score sheet. Barry and Vincent tallied goals while Slick got his first collegiate point with an assist.
On the road, Erkka Vänskä and Will Conley recorded their first collegiate points. Vänskä scored on Oct. 19 and Conley assisted on the play.

Scouting #3 Providence

The Friars come to the Hart Center with a 4-1-1 record after most recently defeating Boston University, 5-0, on Oct. 26.
Against Atlantic Hockey opponents, the Friars tied Sacred Heart on Oct. 20, 2-2.
The Friars are led by freshman Jack Dugan, who has seven points on two goals and five assists through six games.
Hayden Hawkey leads in goal for Providence, with a .943 save percentage in five games played. The senior netminder holds a 1.21 goals against average.
Providence holds a 25.9% conversion rate on the power play, having scored seven power play goals. On the penalty kill, the Friars have stopped opponents 32 times for an 86.5% success rate.

Last Time Against Providence

The Crusaders faced the Friars at the DCU Center on Oct. 15, 2016. The Friars took a short-lived third period lead, but the Crusaders ended on top thanks to a goal from Johnny Coughlin in overtime.
Neil Robinson, Spencer Trapp and Mitch Collett all added points in the 2-1 overtime victory.

Recapping the 2017-2018 Season

The Crusaders finished the 2017-2018 season with a 13-16-7 overall record and 12-10-6 mark in league play.
Michael Laffin returns as the team's leading scorer with 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points.
