The Lead: Yale opened Saturday's doubleheader with an 8-2 victory over the Crusaders in Worcester.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Yale got off to a strong start offensively, notching two runs in the first inning and another pair of runs in the second to make it 4-0 in their favor.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs scored three runs on two hits to make it a 7-0 game.
  • Holy Cross got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, as Freshman Alex Volpi scored a runner with a double to right field.
  • Yale added its eighth run in the top of the seventh before Holy Cross responded with a run off a sacrifice fly from senior Josh Hassell.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Yale outhit the Crusaders 13-7.
  • The Bulldogs left 11 runners on base, while Holy Cross left nine.
  • Senior Brendan King took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits.

The Lead: Senior Anthony Critelli broke the school record for career home runs in the third inning as Holy Cross fell to Yale, 13-6, in game two Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Yale was the first team to get on the board, adding two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
  • In the top of the third, Critelli gave Holy Cross a 3-2 lead with a three-run homer over the left field fence.
  • The Bulldogs responded in the fourth inning, adding four more runs to give them a 6-3 advantage.
  • The Crusaders added another run in the sixth with an RBI ground out from senior Alex Voitik.
  • Yale scored two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh, giving them an 11-4 lead.
  • In the top of the eighth, Holy Cross scored a pair of runs with an RBI double from Critelli and an RBI ground out from junior Thomas Russo.
  • The Bulldogs added their final runs in the eighth to give them a 13-6 advantage.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Yale outhit the Crusaders 14-7.
  • The Bulldogs left 11 runners on base, while Holy Cross left five.
  • Senior Joe Cravero took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Critelli broke the school record for career home runs with his 25th in the third inning of game two.
  • Critelli is now tied for first all-time in program history with 52 career doubles.
