The Lead: Army West Point's strong offensive start led them to a 9-2 victory over the Crusaders in game one of Sunday's doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Black Knights got off to a quick start at the plate, tallying four runs on two hits in the first inning before adding another run in the second.
  • Holy Cross responded with a run in the fourth, as senior Josh Hassell hit a solo home run over the left field fence.
  • After Army added two more runs in the fifth inning, the Crusaders added a tally in the top of the sixth as freshman Chris Rinaldi was walked with the bases loaded.
  • The Black Knights added another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to help seal the final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Black Knights outhit Holy Cross 9-4.
  • The Crusaders left eight runners on base, while Army left four.
  • Senior Ben White took the loss after allowing five runs on four hits.

The Lead: The Crusaders responded in game two on Sunday, defeating Army by a score of 6-1 to win the weekend series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as senior Anthony Critelli hit a two-run homer to left field.
  • The Crusaders built up their lead in the third, as they added four runs on two hits. Freshman Austin Masel notched the only RBI of the inning off a fielder's choice while the Crusaders brought home three more runners caused by errors.
  • The Black Knights notched their only run of the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the third.
  • Seniors Joe Cravero and George Capen held Army scoreless in the final six innings of play to seal the final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Black Knights outhit Holy Cross 5-3.
  • The Crusaders left two runners on base, while Army left nine.
  • Cravero earned the win, allowing one run on five hits through 6.1 innings.
  • Dan Gibbons took the loss for Army, allowing six runs (four earned) on three hits.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Capen made his 87th career appearance in game two, tying the record for most pitching appearances in program history.
  • Critelli's home run was his sixth of the season, and the 22nd of his career. He now stands alone at second all-time for career home runs in school history.
  • Hassell's home run was his first of the season, and the 12th of his career.
