The Lead: The Crusaders posted six runs within the first three innings on Wednesday night, as Holy Cross defeated Rhode Island 7-3.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Crusaders had a strong offensive start in the first inning, adding two runs on three hits. After senior Bill Schlich gave Holy Cross momentum with a lead-off single to right field, the Crusaders brought home runners off a sacrifice fly from junior Cam O'Neill and an RBI double from senior Josh Hassell.
• The Rams responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first, tying the game back up at 2-2.
• Holy Cross stormed ahead in the third inning, as the Crusaders put up four runs on five hits. Junior Dan Vucovich and freshman Chris Rinaldi each registered a pair of RBIs off their hits in the inning.
• After Rhode Island added a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-3, the Crusaders added a run in the sixth as Rinaldi found his way home on a wild pitch.
• The Holy Cross defense held the Rams scoreless through the final five innings of play, allowing just two hits in that time.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Holy Cross outhit the Rams 11-8.
• The Crusaders left 12 runners on base, while Rhode Island left eight.
• Junior Michael Spada earned the win, allowing one run in one inning of relief.
• Nick Robinson took the loss for the Rams, allowing six runs on nine hits.
• Freshman Austin Masel went 2-for-3 on the night with two runs scored.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• Masel now has 14 multiple hit games on the season, leading the Crusaders.
