The Lead: The Holy Cross baseball team was defeated by UC Riverside in its third game against the Highlanders on Monday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• UC Riverside had a strong start in the bottom of the first inning, tallying three runs on three hits.
• Holy Cross responded with a pair of runs in the second, as senior Alex Voitik notched two RBIs with a single up the middle to bring home sophomore Kellen McCormick and junior Thomas Russo.
• The Highlanders increased their lead gradually, adding eight more runs over the course of the next four innings.
• The Crusaders added two more runs in the sixth inning, as freshman Chris Rinaldi and Voitik both registered RBIs when they were hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
• Holy Cross added a run in the seventh with an RBI single from junior Cam O'Neill and another in the ninth inning with an RBI single from freshman Alex Volpi.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• The Highlanders outhit Holy Cross 16-11.
• The Crusaders left 11 runners on base, while UC Riverside left eight.
• Senior Justin Finan took the loss for the Crusaders, allowing nine runs (seven earned) through 4.1 innings pitched.
• Alex Fagalde earned the win for the Highlanders, allowing four runs on six hits through 5.1 innings.
• Senior Anthony Critelli went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Voitik led the Crusaders with three RBIs.
