The Lead: The Holy Cross baseball team defeated Southern California for the first time since 1958, as the Crusaders earned a 6-4 victory over the Trojans on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Holy Cross jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Trojans in the second inning. Senior Bill Schlich brought home classmate Alex Voitik for the first run of the game with an RBI single up the middle.
• The Crusaders extended their lead in the top of the fourth, tallying three runs on five hits. Sophomore Travis Cloney, junior Thomas Russo and freshman Austin Masel all tallied RBIs in the inning.
• Senior Brendan King pitched the first four innings of play allowing no runs and just one hit.
• Holy Cross made it 6-0 in their favor in the fifth inning, as Russo and sophomore Kellen McCormick notched RBIs.
• USC answered in the fifth inning, adding three runs on two hits to make it a three-run game.
• The Trojans added another run in the eighth inning, but were unable to overcome the lead set by the Crusaders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Holy Cross outhit the Trojans 12-7.
• The Crusaders left 11 runners on base, while USC left 10.
• Senior George Capen earned the win, allowing one run on four hits in relief.
• Brad Wegman took the loss for the Trojans, allowing six runs on 10 hits.
• Russo led the Crusaders with a pair of RBIs, while Voitik led Holy Cross with two runs scored.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

• Holy Cross defeated USC for the second time in program history, and the first time since the 1958 College World Series; which was a 3-0 win for the Crusaders.
