The Lead: The Holy Cross baseball team took a 6-3 loss to Southern California in their first game against the Trojans in Los Angeles Friday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Holy Cross got off to a strong start, notching two runs off four hits in the first inning. Junior Cam O'Neill and senior Alex Voitik both registered RBIs as the Crusaders went up 2-0 early.
• The Trojans responded in the second inning with a run off a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one.
• The Crusaders added another run in the fourth inning, as senior Anthony Critelli hit a sacrifice fly to bring home junior Thomas Russo from third.
• After USC added a run in the fourth inning to cut the deficit once again, the Trojans gained control of the lead in the sixth by adding three runs on five hits to make it 5-3 in their favor.
• USC added one run on two hits in the eighth inning to seal the final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• The Trojans outhit Holy Cross 12-11.
• The Crusaders left 11 runners on base, while USC left eight.
• Senior Phil Reese took the loss for the Crusaders, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits through 5.2 innings.
• Quentin Longrie earned the win for USC, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.
• Russo batted 2-for-4 on the night while leading the Crusaders with two runs scored.
