The Lead: Senior pitcher Brendan King (Brookline, Mass.) held Navy to one run on six hits through nine innings, but the Crusaders fell to the Midshipmen 2-1 in extra innings in game one of the Patriot League Championship in Annapolis, Md.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Navy was the first team to get on the board, notching a run off an RBI ground out. Despite loading the bases, Navy was unable to score any more runs as the Crusaders ended the inning with a 6-4-3 double play.
- Holy Cross responded in the next half inning to tie the game up 1-1. Junior Alex Voitik (Shorewood, Ill.) reached base on a double to center field and advanced to third of a ground out from senior Bobby Indeglia (North Kingston, R.I.). In the next at-bat, senior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) brought in the run with a single through the left side.
- King and the Crusaders' defense shined through the next five innings, allowing no runs and just two hits for Navy.
- The Midshipmen ended the game in the bottom of the tenth with a walk-off home run to right center.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Navy outhit the Crusaders 7-6.
- Holy Cross left nine runners on base, while the Midshipmen left eight.
- King pitched nine innings and allowed one run on six hits while dealing five strikeouts. Junior Joe Cravero (Hanover, N.H.) took the loss, allowing the game-winning run in the tenth inning after earning a pair of outs.
- Sam Sorenson earned the win for Navy, pitching the final inning of play.
- Voitik led the Crusaders' offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Lovullo now holds the most putout assists in a single season in program history, totaling 162 on the year which surpasses his record of 154 last season.
- Junior Anthony Critelli (Holmdel, N.J.) now has the most at-bats by a Crusader in a single season in school history with a total of 218 this year.
- Cravero's appearance was his 26th of the season, good for the third-most all-time in program history.
- King threw a career-high 133 pitches through nine innings of action. He also notched his 70th strikeout of the season, and now holds a total of 74 on the year.

- Holy Cross will return to action tomorrow, as they take on Navy in the final day of the Patriot League Championship with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. The championship is a best-of-three series, with the title going to the first team that claims two victories.
