The Lead: Maddy Blakeman scored two goals and recorded three assists for the Greyhounds, as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Loyola Maryland, 15-5, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half before junior Maddie Ward (Norwell, Mass.) found the back of the net on a free position goal at the 19:03 mark to put the Crusaders on the board.
- Loyola scored the next two goals to increase its lead to 6-1 at 17:18. Senior captain Margie Smith (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) answered with a score at the 14:59 mark to trim the Greyhounds' lead to 6-2, but Loyola tallied two more goals to extend to a six-goal lead with 8:56 left on the clock in the first half.
- With 7:21 left before the break, freshman Keely Connors (Bedford, N.Y.) recorded a goal. However, the Greyhounds secured three more scores to end the first half with an 11-3 advantage.
- The Greyhounds tallied the first two goals of the second half before the Crusaders used a two-goal spurt to make the score 13-5. First, freshman Alexis Leighton (Garden City, N.Y.) notched a goal at the 17:40 mark. Senior captain Casey Drollinger (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) picked up an assist on the goal. Ward then tallied her second score of the game with 16:37 left to play in the second half.
- Loyola scored the last two goals for the 15-5 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore goalie Julia Maloney (Loudonville, N.Y.) made three saves, while Molly Wolf tallied one save to earn the victory.
- Loyola posted 27 shots, while Holy Cross had 13.
- The Greyhounds picked up 22 ground balls and the Crusaders recorded 12.
- The Crusaders secured 12 draw controls to Loyola's 10.
- Both Holy Cross and Loyola went 1-2 on free position shots.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Drollinger recorded her first collegiate point with her assist.

- The Crusaders will return to action on Friday, April 15 when they host Lafayette at 7:05 p.m.
