The Lead: The No. 9 seed Holy Cross women's tennis team fell to No. 1 seed Boston University, 5-0, in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Terriers took a 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
- BU then won four straight singles matches to clinch the 5-0 victory.
BEYOND THE RESULTS:
- The seven victories this season are the most for the team in four years. The Crusaders posted 11 in the 2011-2012 season.
THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:
- The match between the Crusaders and the Terriers was part of the inaugural Turnpike Trophy competition. Go here for the schedule and results of the Turnpike Trophy.
- This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school which accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
- The next Turnpike Trophy match-up will be on April 22, when the men's lacrosse teams square off in Worcester at 7:05 p.m., with the winner of the game qualifying for the Patriot League Tournament.
