THE BASICS:

• The Lead: Senior shortstop Nick Lovullo went four-for-six with three doubles, three runs scored and two runs batted in, as the Holy Cross baseball team defeated Siena 9-6 at Siena Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Holy Cross took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a pair of unearned runs.
• The Crusaders increased their advantage to 4-0 in the second inning, on a two-run double by sophomore second baseman Cam O'Neill.
• Siena responded with five runs in the bottom of the second to pull in front 5-4, with Joe Drpich hitting a three-run homer during the inning.
• Holy Cross came back with three runs in the top of the third to pull in front for good.
• A two-run double by Lovullo gave the Crusaders the lead, while O'Neill added a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-5.
• The Saints trimmed the margin to 7-6 in the bottom of the third with an unearned run, but were then shut down by the Holy Cross bullpen for the rest of the day.
• The Crusaders would conclude the scoring with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, on an RBI double by junior first baseman Anthony Critelli and an RBI single by junior outfielder Bill Schlich.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Junior righthanded pitcher Joe Cravero earned the victory in relief, throwing 2-1/3 shutout innings.
• Freshman righthanded pitcher Danny Barlok picked up the save, tossing four shutout innings to end the game.
• Critelli, Schlich, sophomore third baseman Thomas Russo and senior outfielder Bobby Indeglia all had two hits on the day.
