The Lead: Junior Josh Hassell (Tulsa, Okla.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI as the Crusaders defeated Army West Point by a score of 6-2 in game one of Sunday's doubleheader.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Black Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first.
- Holy Cross responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Junior Bill Schlich (Massapequa, N.Y.) brought home a run with a sacrifice fly to right field, and Hassell made it 2-1 with an RBI single to right field.
- Army tied the game up in the top of the second with a run off an error.
- Senior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) broke the tie for Holy Cross with a solo-shot home run to left field to lead off the fifth inning.
- The Crusaders added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-2 in their favor. After junior Alex Voitik (Shorewood, Ill.) led off the inning with a triple to right center, Hassell hit a two-run homer to left field in the following at-bat. Senior Bobby Indeglia (North Kingston, R.I.) drove in the sixth run for the Crusaders with an RBI single to score freshman Travis Cloney (Wall, N.J.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Holy Cross outhit the Black Knights 10-3.
- Army left eight runners on base, while the Crusaders left five.
- Junior Justin Finan (Barrington, R.I.) earned the win after pitching six innings while allowing two runs on three hits and dealing four strikeouts. Senior Sean Gustin (Stoneham, Mass.) earned the save after no runs and no hits in the final inning of the game.
- Tyler Giovinco took the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
- Hassell led the Crusaders' offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
- Lovullo led Holy Cross with four putout assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Lovullo's home run was his second of the season, and the sixth of his career.
- Hassell's homer was his seventh of the season, and the ninth of his career.

The Lead: The Black Knights defeated Holy Cross by a score of 3-0 in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Hanover Insurance Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Army jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
- In the following five innings, freshman Pat McGowan (Wellesley, Mass.) and the Crusaders' defense allowed no runs and forced the Black Knights to leave seven runners on base.
- In the fifth inning, Sophomore Thomas Russo (Weston, Mass.) reached base on a single with two outs and advanced to third off a pair of wild pitched, but Holy Cross was unable to score the run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Black Knights outhit the Crusaders 14-3.
- Army left 14 runners on base, while Holy Cross left six.
- McGowan took the loss after allowing one run on eight hits through four innings pitched and dealing five strikeouts.
- Daniel Burggraaf earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits through seven innings pitched.
