Baseball Trumps Harvard On Wednesday Night, 11-4

THE BASICS:
  • Score: Holy Cross 11, Harvard 4
  • Records: Holy Cross (9-16); Harvard (7-10)
  • Location: Worcester, Mass.
  • Date: March 30, 2016
  • The Lead: Holy Cross junior Bill Schlich (Massapequa, N.Y.) batted 3-for-4 with one run, a homer and four RBIs, to help lead the Crusaders to an 11-4 triumph over Harvard in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday night at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross opened the game's scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) led of the frame with a single and scored two batters later on an RBI-triple by junior Anthony Critelli (Holmdel, N.J.). During the next at-bat, Critelli crossed home on a base-knock by Schlich to give Holy Cross a 2-0 lead.
  • Harvard sliced into the deficit with a run in the top of the third inning to make the score 2-1.
  • The Crusaders increased their lead in the bottom of the third, as Schlich launched a two-run homer over the left-field fence to plate Lovullo and put Holy Cross up 4-1.
  • The Crimson cut the margin to 4-2 in the top of the fourth with an unearned run.
  • Holy Cross, however, pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fifth, as sophomores Cam O'Neill (Lynn, Mass.) and Thomas Russo (Weston, Mass.) were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to make the score 6-2.
  • Harvard scored once in the top of the sixth, but the Crusaders added a trio of runs in the bottom half of the frame when Critelli launched a three-run jack over the left-field fence to give Holy Cross a 9-3 advantage.
  • The Crimson made it a four-run game (9-4) in the top of the eighth, but Holy Cross scored two runs with the bases loaded on a walk and a hit batter to make the score its final, 11-4.
