THE BASICS:

• The Lead: Holy Cross senior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and junior Bill Schlich (Massapequa, N.Y.) both batted 3-for-4, as the Crusaders claimed a 4-2 victory over Yale in non-conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Yale Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• After a scoreless first, Holy Cross gained the lead in the top of the second inning. Freshman Kellen McCormick (Rockford, Ill.) drove in both Schlich and sophomore Thomas Russo (Weston, Mass.) on a base hit to make the score 2-0.
• Yale, however, scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 2-2.
• The Crusaders broke the stalemate in the top of the seventh. With one out, Schlich doubled to right center and scored during the next at bat on an RBI-double by McCormick. McCormick scored later in the frame on a single by Lovullo to make the score its final, 4-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Holy Cross junior reliever Jon Escobar (Inverness, Ill.) picked up the win (1-1) as he tossed 2.2 innings and allowed only one hit while striking out four. Crusader closer Sean Gustin (Stoneham, Mass.) notched his fourth save of the season, as he recorded two punchouts in the ninth.
• Yale reliever Chasen Ford was charged with the loss (0-3), as he surrendered two runs on four hits in three innings of work.
• Holy Cross held the 10-9 edge in total hits and the 3-1 advantage in extra-base hits.
• Lovullo hit 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Schlich hit 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. McCormick batted 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs.
