HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Crusaders opened the scoring at 1:26 of the first period when freshman forward Michael Laffin (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) retrieved the puck after an Air Force turnover and sent a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Shane Starrett low on the blocker side to make it 1-0.

  • At 10:33 of the second period, sophomore forward Danny Lopez (Barrington Hills, Ill.) sent a pass to Moore and he blasted a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that beat Starrett high on the glove side to make it 3-0 Crusaders. Senior assistant captain Jake Bolton (Ellington, Conn.) also recorded an assist on the goal.
  • At 18:21 of the second period, Jordan Himley sent a pass from the left circle to the slot and Ben Carey one-timed it over Berrafato's glove side to make it 3-1.
  • Air Force outshot Holy Cross 12-9 in the second period, going 0-2 on the power play, while the Crusaders went 0-1.
  • At 11:15 of the third period, sophomore forward Brett Mulcahy (Kelowna, British Columbia) sent a pass from behind the net to freshman defenseman Spencer Trapp (White City, Saskatchewan) and he fired a wrister into the top left corner of the net to extend the Crusaders' lead to 4-1.
  • With 5:34 remaining in the third period, Air Force went with an empty net, and at 15:24 Carey ripped a shot on goal and the rebound bounced out to Matt Serratore and his backhander found the back of the net to cut the lead to 4-2.
