• The Lead: Freshman goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante made 12 saves as the Crusaders were defeated by Brown, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in Worcester.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Junior midfielder Rachel Lapar gave Holy Cross a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute of play, as she tipped in a shot from junior forward Maureen Connolly.
• After shots were even at 7-7 at the break, Brown responded with an offensive push to begin the second half.
• Jaclyn Torres tied the game for the Bears in the 55th minute, finishing with a shot at close range to make it 1-1.
• Gina Openshaw would give Brown the go-ahead goal just two minutes later, as she tipped in a shot from a penalty corner.
• LaPlante made seven saves in the second half to keep it a close game, but the Crusaders were unable to find an equalizer.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• LaPlante totaled 12 saves for Holy Cross.
• Katie Hammaker stopped seven shots for Brown in the win.
• Shots were 20-11 in favor of the Bears.
• Connolly led Holy Cross with four shots, all of which were on goal.
