THE BASICS:

  • The Lead: Bucknell sophomore Jacquie Klotz totaled game-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the visiting Bison to a come-from-behind 58-51 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.

TURNING POINT:

  • After trailing Holy Cross 36-27 at intermission, the Bison outscored Holy Cross 17-5 in the third quarter to gain a 44-41 lead.
  • The Crusaders shot only 15.4 percent from the field (2-13) in the third, as the Bison scored nine points off four Holy Cross miscues during the period.
  • Holy Cross would get no closer than three points for the remainder of the contest.

HOLY CROSS HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Holy Cross was led offensively by sophomore guards Tricia Byrne (Dunmore, Pa.) and Infiniti Thomas-Waheed (Newton, Mass.) who both scored 10 points apiece.
  • Senior center Molly Hourigan (Memphis, N.Y.) totaled seven points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots, while sophomore Katie Doherty (Holbrook, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points and three assists.

FIRST HALF:

  • After a slow start to open the contest, Holy Cross held the 7-6 edge at the 3:18-mark of the first quarter. The Crusaders then got back-to-back three-pointers from senior Kate Gillespie (Washington, D.C.) and Doherty to gain a 13-6 advantage (2:42).
  • Holy Cross kept the seven-point lead (15-8) with 1:27 left in the first, but the Bison closed the quarter on a 4-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 15-11 through the opening stanza.
  • The Crusaders began the second quarter on a 6-0 run to gain an 11-point, 22-11 lead (7:40). The teams traded buckets to advance the score the 24-13 (7:01), but Bucknell embarked on an 11-0 rally to tie the game at 24-24 with 3:46 on the clock.
  • Holy Cross, however, finished the first half on a 12-3 surge to head into the locker room with a 36-27 lead. Thomas-Waheed and Byrne each had four points during the late second-quarter rally, as the Bison did not hit a field goal over the final 3:46 of the period.
  • Holy Cross shot 53.8 percent from the field (14-26) and 37.5 percent from downtown (3-8) in the opening half.

SECOND HALF:

  • Bucknell began the third quarter with eight straight points to whittle the deficit to 36-35 (3:58), before Thomas-Waheed drilled a three-pointer on the next possession to put the Crusaders ahead by four points (39-35).
  • Holy Cross held the 41-37 lead just over a minute later, but the Bison concluded the third quarter with seven straight points to head into the fourth with a 44-41 advantage.
  • Bucknell went ahead by six points (47-41) at the 8:05-mark of the fourth quarter, but a layup by Byrne and one free throw by Thomas-Waheed sliced the margin to 47-44 (5:35).
  • Klotz, however, drilled a three-pointer 12 seconds later to give the Bison a six-point, 50-44 lead midway through the fourth quarter.
  • Holy Cross got within five points once over the final five-plus minutes, as Bucknell sank 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to ice the game and claim a 58-51 triumph.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross shot 37.3 percent from the field (19-51), but only hit on 5-of-25 from the floor in the second half (20.0%).
  • Bucknell connected on 18 of their 56 shots on the afternoon (32.1%) and drained 5-of-16 from behind the arc (31.3%).
  • The Bison held the statistical edge in total rebounds (40-34), assists (16-10), points off turnovers (14-11) and second-chance points (7-3).

NEWS & NOTES:

  • Mifsud recorded her 300th career assist in the contest.
  • Junior forward Madelyn Ganser (Needham, Mass.) hauled in a career-high nine rebounds.
  • Byrne led Holy Cross with three steals in the game, her second straight contest with three swipes.
  • Bucknell ends a three-game losing streak to Holy Cross, as the Crusaders are now 43-17 in the all-time series against the Bison.
