The Mountain Hawks won the first game, 6-2, while the Crusaders earned the 7-4 victory in the second contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

  • Lehigh struck for a score in the bottom of the first inning, as Justin Pacchioli crossed home on a groundout to give the Mountain Hawks the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Lehigh's Pat Walshe gave the hosts the 2-0 lead on a solo home run over the left-field fence.
  • Lehigh added another run in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the fourth to gain the 5-0 advantage.
  • Holy Cross, however, cut into the deficit with a score in the top of the fifth. With one out, sophomore Bill Schlich (Massapequa, N.Y.) roped a double into the right-center gap for the Crusaders' first hit. Sophomore Alex Voitik (Shorewood, Ill.) then plated Schlich on a double off the right-field wall to make the score 5-1.
  • The Mountain Hawks added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Walshe hit his second home run of the contest over the right-field fence to give Lehigh the 6-1 lead.
  • The Crusaders threatened in the top of the ninth inning, as junior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) plated Schlich on a single through the left side, but the Mountain Hawks would hold on for the 6-2 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1):

  • Lehigh starting pitcher Kevin Long picked up the victory (3-1), as he allowed one earned run on three hits in 5-2/3 innings pitched. Reliever Kevin Boswick allowed one run and three hits in 3-1/3 innings pitched to earn the save (3).
  • Holy Cross senior Donny Murray (Walpole, Mass.) was charged with the loss (2-4), as he surrendered five earned on nine hits in seven innings of work.
  • The Mountain Hawks held the 10-6 advantage in total hits, as senior Jack St. Clair (Newton, Mass.) was the only Crusaders with multiple hits (2-for-3). Schlich scored both runs for the Crusaders in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

  • Holy Cross grabbed the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, as Lovullo launched a solo home run over the left-field fence. Then in the bottom of the second, Lovullo crushed another solo shot to give the Crusaders the 2- advantage.
  • Lehigh tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning, as James Bleming hit a two-run home run over the center-field fence. The Crusaders, however, answered in the bottom of the fifth. Critelli plated senior Evan Ocello (Camarillo, Calif.) on an RBI-single to break the tie and scored two batters later on a Lehigh throwing error to give the Crusaders the 4-2 lead.
  • The Mountain Hawks, however, rallied for a pair of runs – both with two outs – in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at 4-4.

  • Lehigh held the 9-8 edge in total hits, but the Crusaders held the advantage in extra-base hits (3-1).
