The Lead: Senior co-captain Sarah Dahlstrom (Southborough, Mass.) threw to a first-place finish in the heptathlon in shot put, while the 4 x 800-meter relay team comprised senior co-captain Abigail Mitchell (Manchester, N.H.), junior Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.), freshman Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.) and junior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) also recorded a first-place finish as the Holy Cross women's track and field team opened competition at the 2015 Patriot League Outdoor Championship on Friday, hosted by Army West Point. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The 4 x 800-meter relay team of Mitchell, Carley, Matherne and Gildea crossed the finish line in first with an ECAC-qualifying time of 8:52.33, while Dahlstrom finished first in the shot put as she cleared a distance of 11.54 meters. 
• Senior co-captain Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) finished the 100-meter dash at 12.21 seconds and the 200-meter with a career-best time of 25.08 seconds, qualifying her for the final heat in each event. 
• In the 10,000-meter run, freshman Hannah Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) crossed the finish line with an ECAC-qualifying time of 36:40.19 and a third-place finish, while sophomore Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) followed in eighth with an ECAC-qualifying time of 37:33.56. 
• Freshman Alanna Hitscherich (Sussex, N.J.) and senior co-captain Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) represented the Crusaders in the 100-meter hurdles, taking 12th (15.71) and 14th (season-best, 16.05). 
• In the field events, seniors Alexandra Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) finished in third and fourth, respectively, with ECAC-qualifying and career-best heights of 3.65 meters in the pole vault, as freshman Jamison Briggs (Keene, N.H.) and sophomore Samantha Speroni (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.) took eighth (3.50m) and 10th (career-best, 3.50m). 
• Both sophomore Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) and senior MaryGrace Brogioli (Wareham, Mass.) finished with season-best distances in the long jump. Eldracher finished seventh with a distance of 5.21 meters, while Brogioli followed in ninth at 5.13 meters. 
• Junior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) finished 10th in the hammer throw at 41.10 meters, while sophomore Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass.) took 10th in the javelin at 36.40 meters. 
• In the heptathlon, Dahlstrom also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash (career-best, 27.39) and high jump (1.57m), eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (career-best, 15.80) and is third overall at the end of day one with 2,751 points. 
• Kimball is sixth overall at the end of day one with 2,682 points as she took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (career-best, 15.58), tied for fourth in the high jump (1.60m) and eighth in shot put (9.52m). 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

• Army West Point currently leads the team competition with 49.50 points.
