WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Katie Elia (Erie, Pa.) has been named the GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week, for competition from April 6-12. Elia helped lead the Holy Cross women's tennis team to a 2-0 record in a pair of matches last weekend.
On the week, Elia lost only one game between two singles matches and two doubles matches. In Saturday's 7-0 win over Johnson & Wales, she defeated Samantha Gambino 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and teamed with junior Abby Henry (Wellesley, Mass.) for an 8-0 win over Taylor Klein and Bridget Bertone at No. 2 doubles. Then in Sunday's 6-1 victory over St. Anselm, Elia downed Katie Roberts 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and earned an 8-0 win with Henry at No. 2 doubles over Kathryn Rindo and Leah Fitzgerald.
On the season, Elia now stands 5-8 in singles matches, to go along with a 5-11 mark in doubles play with Henry.
The Crusaders (4-8 overall) return to action on Tuesday, April 14, when they travel to Rhode Island for a 3:00 p.m. match.
