Women’s tennis falls to Massachusetts in spring opener

AHMERST, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's tennis program was defeated 7-0 by Massachusetts in non-conference play Saturday afternoon.

The loss was the second straight for the Crusaders (2-2) dating back to the fall slate. The Minutewomen remain unblemished at 2-0.

DOUBLES ACTION:
  • UMass collected wins at all three doubles earning the point for the match. The duo of freshmen Phoebe Devine and Margaret Winiecki fell by a 6-3 score which was the closest score.
SINGLES PLAY:
  • The Minutewomen swept the singles matches to claim the overall victory.
  • Freshman Hannah Flynn almost earned a win at No. 2 singles narrowly dropping her match to Amelia Tye 6-1, 6-4.
  • Senior Ashley Zilora also was close to her competition at the No. 5 slot being narrowly defeated by Madara Markevica 6-4, 6-1.

  • The Crusaders are back in action against Brown (2-0) on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
