Men's Rowing Places Fourth At George Washington Invitational

THE BASICS:

  • Regatta: George Washington Invitational
  • Date: Friday & Saturday, April 10-11, 2015
  • Location: Washington, D.C. (Potomac River)
  • The Lead: The Holy Cross men's rowing team competed at the George Washington Invitational on the Potomac River as the Crusaders took on Gonzaga, George Washington and Navy. The Crusaders finished fourth out of six overall teams for the championship with 54 points. Navy won the Oliver T. Carr Bowl with 117 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • On Friday afternoon, the Crusaders took on Gonzaga and posted two victories versus the Zags. The varsity eight defeated the Zags with a time of 5:53:40 as Gonzaga's varsity eight posted a time of 6:03.90. Gonzaga won the second varsity eight race with a time of 6:10.2 as the Crusaders tallied a time of 6:15.7. The Crusaders' third varsity eight won with a time of 6:10.5, while Gonzaga recorded a time of 6:22.70.
  • The Crusaders then competed against George Washington on Saturday morning. George Washington won the Sullivan Cup with a time of 5:45.10 as the Crusaders were just one second behind with a time of 5:46.20. The Colonials won the second varsity eight competition with a time of 5:52.40 as the Crusaders tallied a time of 6:01.00. George Washington's third varsity eight won with a time of 5:57.70 as the Crusaders posted a time of 6:05.60.
  • Then on Saturday afternoon, the Crusaders took on the Midshipmen. Navy's No. 12 nationally ranked varsity eight defeated the Crusaders with a time of 5:27.20. The Crusaders posted a time of 5:33.50. Navy's second varsity eight (5:46.20) placed first, while the Mids' freshman eight (5:52.00) was second and the Crusaders' second varsity eight (6:00.90) was third. The Mids' third varsity eight (5:41.80) placed first, the Crusaders' third varsity eight (5:52.50) was second and Navy's second freshman eight (6:03.10) was third.

  • The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Princeton, N.J., to take on Georgetown on Lake Carnegie for the Healy Cup on Saturday, April 18.
