HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross gained the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as senior Evan Ocello (Camarillo, Calif.) plated sophomore Josh Hassell (Tulsa, Okla.) on a sacrifice fly.
  • The Crimson answered and tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, as Ferreira singled through the left side to score Jake McGuiggan.
  • Harvard added a pair of insurance runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to gain the 5-1 advantage.
  • Holy Cross, however, pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 5-3. Ocello again cashed in Hassell – this time on an RBI-double – for the inning's first run. Junior Nick Lovullo (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) scored the second run of the frame on a sacrifice fly by senior Jack St. Clair (Newton, Mass.).
  • The Crusaders managed only one hit over the final three innings, as the Crimson held on for the 5-3 victory.

  • Holy Cross sophomore pitcher Phil Reese (Frederick, Va.) was charged with the loss (1-5), as he surrendered two runs on four hits in three-plus innings of work.
  • The Crimson held the 7-4 advantage in total hits, but the Crusaders held the 2-1 edge in extra-base hits.
