LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Holy Cross baseball team split a Saturday twinbill with first place Bucknell falling 5-4 in seven innings before taking a 7-5 decision in game two at Depew Field.
The split sends the Crusaders to 16-17, 10-5 PL while the Bison fall to 19-14, 12-3 PL. Holy Cross has won its 10th game over the last 14 contests.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher
Brett Mulligan toted the mound in game two and tossed the best outing of his collegiate career. Mulligan allowed one hit and one walk over five shutout innings striking out three tossing a career-high 61 pitches. Mulligan combined with senior
Jaden Wywoda retired 15 straight Bison spanning game one and into game two.
Junior
John LaFleur recorded a 2-for-3 showing with three RBI, a run scored and a walk in game two. He had a key two RBI single in the seventh to plate a pair of important insurance tallies. LaFleur has 2+ hits in four of his last six games.
Senior
CJ Egrie picked up his 34th stolen base of the season in game two giving him 86 career thefts good enough for fourth all-time in Patriot League history. He needs six more steals to pass Shawn Harris (91, Fordham 1992-1994) for sole possession of third place all-time.
GAME ONE: BUCKNELL 5, HOLY CROSS 4 – 7 INN.
STARTING ON THE MOUND:
- Jake Schultz: (W, 1-0), 4.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, zero runs, two walks, seven strikeouts, 76 pitches.
- Jaden Wywoda: (L, 4-3), complete game, five hits allowed, five runs, two walks, seven strikeouts, 98 pitches
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
- Hadley Maxwell: (S, 8) 2.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, zero runs, zero walks, one strikeout, 31 pitches
- Liam Jones: 0.2 innings pitched, two hits allowed, four runs – one earned, four walks, one strikeout, 37 pitches
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Junior Ryan Grundy: 1-for-2, double, run scored
- Sophomore Nick Andersen: 1-for-3, RBI, run scored, walk
- Junior Van Coughlin: 1-for-2, RBI, walk
- Lleyton Coupe: 1-for-2, double, two RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bucknell produced a four spot in the bottom of the first for the early lead.
- A single run in the second built the edge to 5-0.
- Holy Cross batted around in the fifth scoring four runs to come within a run, 5-4. Andersen posted an RBI walk for the first run. LaFleur grounded out for the second out of the frame producing a run. A Baltimore chopped single from Coughlin and an error brought home two more. The Crusaders then loaded the bases but could not tie the game.
- Wywoda retired the final seven batters he faced as Holy Cross could not tie the game.
GAME TWO: HOLY CROSS 7, BUCKNELL 5
STARTING ON THE MOUND:
- Sophomore Brett Mulligan (W, 1-1), 5.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, zero runs, one walk, three strikeouts, 61 pitches
- Mikey Myro: (L, 1-2), 4.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, four runs, four walks, two strikeouts, 75 pitches

- Sophomore Marco Citro: (S, 1), 1.2 innings pitched, one hit allowed, zero runs, one walk, zero strikeouts, 28 pitches
- Tyler Seidman: 2.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, three runs, two walks, one strikeout, 39 pitches
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- LaFleur: 2-for-3, three RBI, run scored, walk, sacrifice
- Sophomore Simon Landry: 1-for-3, run, stolen base, sacrifice
- Egrie: 1-for-3, walk, stolen base
- Andersen: 1-for-5, RBI, run scored
- Junior Braden Connors: 1-for-5, RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- LaFleur's sacrifice bunt RBI put the Crusaders ahead 1-0 in the second.
- The Crusader streak of 15 straight retired Bison was snapped when Mulligan walked a batter in the third.
- Andersen singled to plate Landry for the 2-0 Crusader lead in the fourth. Andersen crossed the plate on a wild pitch then Connors pulled an RBI single for the 4-0 Holy Cross advantage.
- A fielder's choice bunt from freshman Owen Stelzer resulted in another run for the Crusaders in the sixth.
- LaFleur hit a two-RBI single to expand the edge to 7-0.
- A solo homer from Bucknell in the seventh made it 7-1.
- Four from the Bison in the eighth brought them within two, 7-5
- Citro got the final five outs for the save.

- Sophomore left-handed pitcher Derek Volz (1-1, 7.82 ERA) takes the mound for the Crusaders. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
