PROVIDENCE – The Holy Cross baseball program was upended 9-1 by non-conference opponent Brown Tuesday afternoon at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.

The loss sends the Crusaders to 16-19 overall while the Bears improve to 16-13.

STARTING ON THE MOUND:

• Bryan Yang: (W, 2-1), 6.0 innings pitched, three hits allowed, zero runs, one walk, four strikeouts, 69 pitches
• Junior Dan Mateffy: (L, 1-2), 2.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, two runs, two walks, one strikeout, 36 pitches

OUT OF THE BULLPEN:

• Christian Keel: 1.0 innings pitched, zero hits allowed, zero runs, zero walks, four strikeouts, 17 pitches
• Sophomore Marco Citro: 1.1 innings pitched, one hit allowed, zero earned runs, zero walks, one strikeout, 12 pitches

STEPPING TO THE PLATE:

• Junior Alex Sandell: 2-for-3
• Junior Ryan Grundy: 1-for-4, double, run scored
• Freshman Macade Maxwell: 1-for-4, RBI
• Freshman Cayden Van Dolah: 1-for-2
• Alex Benevento: 1-for-1, double, two RBI, two runs scored, two walks

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• A wild pitch and an RBI groundout from Brown put them in the lead at 2-0 in the first.
• An error from Holy Cross in the fifth resulted in a pair of runs for the Bears in the fifth as they led 4-0.
• Maxwell singled to right field to plate Grundy as Holy Cross trailed 4-1.
• Brown added a sacrifice fly in the seventh to build the score to 5-1.
• The Bears broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth plating four runs.

DUE UP:

• Holy Cross hosts Navy (22-14, 9-7 PL) for a four-game Patriot League showdown starting on Friday, April 17.
• First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
