Baseball drops series finale to Bucknell Sunday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Looking to win the series, the Holy Cross baseball team suffered an 12-4 loss to Patriot League opponent Bucknell Sunday afternoon at Depew Field.

The loss sends the Crusaders to 16-18 overall and 10-6 PL. The Bison move to 20-14 and remain in first place in the Patriot League at 13-3. Holy Cross is three games behind Bucknell for first place with 10 conference games remaining.

STARTING ON THE MOUND:
  • Brady Hoar: (W, 5-2), 7.0 innings pitched, six hits allowed, three runs, one walk, seven strikeouts, 93 pitches
  • Sophomore Derek Volz: (L, 1-2), 2.1 innings pitched, six hits allowed, six runs – five earned, two walks, two strikeouts, 58 pitches
OUT OF THE BULLPEN:
  • Sophomore Aidan Gilbert: 2.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, one run, one walk, three strikeouts, 36 pitches
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Junior Alex Sandell: 2-for-4, double, three RBI
  • Senior CJ Egrie: 2-for-4, double, RBI, run scored
  • Junior Van Coughlin: 1-for-2, double, run scored, walk
  • Freshman Owen Stelzer: 1-for-2, two runs scored, walk
  • Sophomore Nick Andersen: 1-for-2, stolen base
  • Brady Green: 2-for-4, home run, four RBI, run scored
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Bucknell hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
  • An RBI single and an error in the second expanded the Bucknell lead to 3-0.
  • The Bison hit a three-run shot in the third to lead 6-0. Another RBI single made it 7-0.
  • Two runs in the fourth for the hosts upped the margin to 9-0.
  • The Crusaders cracked the scoring column in the sixth as an Egrie RBI double and a Sandell single through the right side plated a pair as they trailed 9-3.
  • A sacrifice fly added onto the Bison lead making it 10-3.
  • Sandell had an RBI double to put the Crusaders down 10-4.
  • Two more from Bucknell made it 12-4.
DUE UP:
  • Holy Cross will be back in action on Tuesday, April 14 at Brown (15-13, 8-3 Ivy).
  • First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
