• The Lead: The varsity eight placed fifth out of 19 boats, while the second varsity eight was third out of 17 teams as the Holy Cross men's rowing team started its 2015 spring season at the 33rd annual Murphy Cup on Saturday on the Cooper River.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The varsity eight won its opening heat with a time of 6:06.33 as Bucknell was second with a time of 6:11.78. The Crusaders (6:05.14) then placed fifth in the final. Delaware (5:56.38) placed first.
• The second varsity eight placed third in its heat with a time of 6:08.74 as Drexel won with a time of 6:05.09. The Crusaders (6:12.26) then were third in the final. Drexel (6:03.45) placed first and Temple (6:04.72) was second.
• The varsity four placed third in its heat with a time of 7:22.70. Michigan won with a time of 7:08.12.

• The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Boston, Mass., to compete against EARC opponents No. 19 Columbia, No. 15 Dartmouth and MIT on the Charles River on Saturday, April 4.
