The Lead: Freshmen Lauren Abbenante (Cranston, R.I.) and Kara Violette (Biddeford, Maine), senior Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) and sophomore Isabela Bagi (Branford, Conn.) each sank goals to lead the Holy Cross women's hockey team to its first ECAC Open title since 2011 on Sunday afternoon in Colchester, Vt., defeating Franklin Pierce 4-1. Holy Cross wrapped up its season at 18-7-3, while Franklin Pierce slipped to 20-6-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Franklin Pierce jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Bryana Harron's shot was stopped by senior goalie Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.), but the rebound was kicked to Alex Brolsma who jammed the puck to the right side of the net (11:41).
  • However, Holy Cross responded with several shots at 18:10 from junior assistant captain Taylor McGee (Pearl River, N.Y.) from low in the slot, but was blocked by a Raven defender protecting the net when Franklin Pierce goalie Shannon O'Neil was out of position.
  • With 32.3 seconds left in the period, the Crusaders got on the board after Abbenante skated into the zone and backhanded a shot over the shoulder of O'Neil. Credited with the assists were senior Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and sophomore Erin Hall (Pembroke, Mass.).
  • Holy Cross entered the locker room with a 1-1 tie.
  • Within the first 10 minutes of the second period, Stevenson stopped 11 shots.
  • The Crusaders broke the 1-1 tie with the man-advantage when Klimasewiski stuffed in a rebound to the left side from Violette's shot at 10:39. The assists were credited to junior Mackenzie Boardman (Anchorage, Alaska) and Violette.
  • Holy Cross capitalized again on the power-play as Bagi fired the puck at 17:23 after a scramble in front of the crease. At the end of the second stanza, the Crusaders had a 3-1 lead over the Ravens.
  • Franklin Pierce nearly cut the lead midway through the third period when the Ravens sent a trio of shots at 11:15 that included Karsyn Baker's near tip-in chance low in the slot.
  • However, Holy Cross increased its lead to 4-1 after Violette tucked the puck into the lower left corner (13:19) with the assist credited to Klimasewiski.
  • The Ravens concluded the game with a 48-second power-play opportunity, but had a pair of shots blocked by the Crusader defenders.
  • As the clock wound down to zero, Holy Cross sealed the 4-1 victory and its first ECAC Open title since 2011 and fifth overall.
