Crusaders Earn 68-62 Win Over Colgate; Scott Scores 1000th Point

  • The Lead: Holy Cross junior forward Raquel Scott (Ridgewood, N.J.) posted game-highs of 31 points, 17 rebounds and five assists to help lead the Crusaders to a 68-62 victory over Colgate in Patriot League women's basketball action on Wednesday evening. Scott also recorded her 1,000th career point, becoming the 31st Crusader and 12th Holy Cross junior to reach the milestone.  

TURNING POINT:

  • Colgate held the 43-42 lead with 12:29 left in the second half, but Holy Cross embarked on an 11-2 rally to gain the 53-45 advantage (7:57). The Crusaders increased the margin to their largest of the game (60-49) with 5:45 on the clock and would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Colgate jumped out with the 11-6 lead at the 14:04-mark of the first half on the back of a layup by Paige Kriftcher. The Crusaders rallied back and gained the 15-13 advantage on a freshman guard Katie Doherty (Holbrook, N.Y.) three-pointer (11:12).
  • Holy Cross continued its run and went ahead 25-19 (7:31), but Colgate countered and went on a 5-0 spurt to slice the margin to 25-24 (5:11).
  • The Crusaders, however, embarked on a 7-0 surge to gain their largest lead of the period (34-26) with 2:26 on the clock. The Raiders scored the final point of the half, as Holy Cross went into the locker room with the 34-28 lead.
  • Holy Cross pushed the lead to 42-32 less than four minutes into the second half (16:32), but Colgate rallied back with an 11-0 surge to gain the 43-42 advantage (12:29).
  • The Crusaders countered with an 11-2 run to grab the 53-45 lead on a Scott layup and pushed the margin to 60-49 with 5:45 left in regulation.
  • Colgate slowly whittled the deficit to two points (64-62) with 1:01 on the clock, but four made free throws by Scott clinched the win for Holy Cross.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Scott scored 31 points for the second consecutive game on 10-of-19 shooting, while she connected on 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. She also hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season and 29th of her career.
  • Senior forward Emily Parker (Johnston, Iowa) totaled 11 points and six rebounds, while Doherty tallied 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.
  • Colgate was led by Carole Harris, who posted 15 points. Randyll Butler recorded 12 points and 10 caroms.

TEAM STATISTICS:

  • Holy Cross connected on 23-of-56 from the floor (41.1%), while Colgate hit on 22-of-55 from the field (40.0%).
  • The Crusaders canned 5-of-18 from behind the arc (27.8%), while the Raiders drained 30.0 percent from downtown (3-10).
  • Holy Cross connected on 81.0 percent of its free throws (17-21), while Colgate only hit 57.7 percent from the charity stripe (15-26).
  • The Crusaders held the statistical edge in rebounding (39-34), assists (16-9) and points in the paint (32-24).
