Women's Basketball Tops Loyola Maryland, 65-37

THE BASICS:

  • The Lead: Holy Cross junior forward Raquel Scott (Ridgewood, N.J.) notched her 12th double-double of the season and 31st of her career with 14 points and 11 rebounds to help lead the Crusaders to a 65-37 victory over Loyola Maryland in Patriot League women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at Reitz Arena.

TURNING POINT:

  • With the 28-15 halftime lead, Holy Cross began the second half with a 14-4 rally to gain the 44-19 advantage with 14:56 on the clock. The Greyhounds would not get any closer than 22 points for the remainder of the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross jumped out with the early 6-2 lead and increased its advantage to 13-4 at the 8:31-mark of the first half.
  • Loyola cut the margin to six points (15-9) with 5:43 on the clock, but a 13-4 rally gave the Crusaders the 28-13 lead. The Greyhounds scored the final point of the half and went into the locker room trailing Holy Cross, 28-15.
  • The Crusaders opened the second half on a 14-4 rally to gain the 44-19 lead (14:56) and increased their advantage to 29 points (57-28) with 4:42 left in the stanza. Holy Cross would hold on for the 65-37 victory.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • In addition to Scott for Holy Cross, senior forward Emily Parker (Johnston, Iowa) tallied 10 points and three rebounds. Freshman guard Infiniti Thomas-Waheed (Newton, Mass.) totaled eight points and eight rebounds, while junior center Molly Hourigan (Memphis, N.Y.) posted four points and seven boards.
  • Junior Lisa Mifsud (Erie, Pa.), sophomore Madelyn Ganser (Needham, Mass.) and freshman Tricia Byrne (Dunmore, Pa.) all scored six points each for the Crusaders.
  • Loyola was led by Nai Brown, who scored 11 points.

TEAM STATISTICS:

  • Holy Cross shot 45.1 percent from the field (23-51), including a blistering 63.6 percent clip in the second half (14-22). Loyola was limited to 22.0 percent shooting (13-59).
  • The Crusaders held the statistical edge in total rebounds (51-33), points in the paint (32-14), assists (15-7), and fast break points (16-4).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Scott moved into 23rd place on the all-time Holy Cross scoring list with 1,098 career points, while she now stands sixth in school history with 735 career rebounds.
  • Ganser and Byrne scored a career-high six points, while Thomas-Waheed tied a personal best with her eight rebounds.
  • The Crusaders held the wire-to-wire lead.
  • The 37 points and .220 shooting percentage were the lowest allowed this season by Holy Cross.
