Women's Basketball Defeated By Lehigh On Saturday

THE BASICS:

  • Score: Lehigh 71, Holy Cross 58 
  • Records: Lehigh (17-7, 9-5 PL); Holy Cross (11-16, 7-7 PL) 
  • Location: Bethlehem, Pa. (Stabler Arena)
  • The Lead: Holy Cross junior forward Raquel Scott (Ridgewood, N.J.) recorded her 30th career double-double with game-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds, but it would not be enough as Lehigh earned the 71-58 victory in Patriot League women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Stabler Arena.

TURNING POINT:

  • After being down by double-digits at halftime, the Crusaders worked the deficit to five points (41-36) at the 14:36-mark of the second half. Lehigh, however, went on a 17-8 rally to gain the 14-point, 58-44, lead (6:32). Holy Cross would not get any closer than nine points for the remainder of the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lehigh jumped out with the 12-0 lead at the 15:54-mark of the first half, but the Crusaders rallied back with a 7-1 spurt to cut the margin to 13-7 (13:01). Holy Cross worked the deficit to five points (18-13) with 9:07 on the clock on the back of a junior guard Lisa Mifsud (Erie, Pa.) layup.
  • The Mountain Hawks, however, scored eight straight points to gain the 26-13 advantage (4:42). Lehigh ended the half on a 7-4 spurt and went into the locker room with the 33-17 lead.    
  • Lehigh increased its lead to 17 points (39-22) at the 17:54-mark of the second half, but the Crusaders embarked on a 14-2 scoring surge to cut the deficit to 41-36. Mifsud had five points during the run, while Scott tallied four.
  • The Mountain Hawks, however, rallied back with a 17-8 run to gain the 58-44 lead with 6:32 on the clock. The Crusaders would cut the margin to nine points (60-51) with 3:13 left in regulation, but would not get any closer as Lehigh held on for the 71-58 victory.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:

  • In addition to the double-double for Scott, she tallied a game-high four steals. Mifsud totaled 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, while senior forward Emily Parker (Johnston, Iowa) scored 10 points.
  • Freshman guard Katie Doherty (Holbrook, N.Y.) posted eight points, seven rebounds and a team-best four assists.
  • Lehigh was led by Katie O'Reilly, who recorded 15 points, five assists and three steals. In addition, Kerry Kinek totaled 14 points, nine rebounds and five dimes, while Lexi Martins tallied an 11 point and 10 rebound double-double.

TEAM STATISTICS:

  • Holy Cross shot 40.0 percent from the field (24-60), including a 51.6 percent clip in the second half (16-31), while Lehigh connected on 27-of-66 from the floor (40.9%).
  • The Mountain Hawks canned 5-of-14 from behind the arc (35.7%), while Holy Cross hit on 4-of-19 (21.1%).
  • Lehigh drained 12-of-20 from the free-throw line (60.0%), while the Crusaders connected on 6-of-7 (85.7%).
  • Lehigh held the statistical edge in rebounds (43-35), assists (18-13), points in the paint (40-23) and bench points (25-4).
  • The Mountain Hawks scored 25 points off 23 Holy Cross turnovers, while the Crusaders tallied 13 points of 18 Lehigh miscues.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Scott recorded her 700th collegiate rebound and has compiled 702 caroms in her career. She also moves into 25th place on the Holy Cross all-time scoring list with 1,063 collegiate points.
