THE BASICS:

· The Lead: Boston University freshman Ally Hammel scored three first half goals, to lead the Terriers to a 6-1 victory over the Holy Cross field hockey team at the Hart Turf Field.
THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:
· The game between the Crusaders and the Terriers was the opener of the inaugural Turnpike Trophy competition, in which Boston University now holds a 1-0 lead.
· Hammel was selected as the game's Turnpike Trophy MVP.
· This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school which accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
· The next Turnpike Trophy match-up comes on Oct. 21, when the Holy Cross and Boston University women's soccer teams meet in Boston.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
· The Terriers opened the scoring 15:21 into the first half when Hammel knocked home a rebound after freshman goalkeeper Megan Inch (Perth, Scotland) made a save on a shot by Sofi Laurito.
· Hammel added her second goal off a feed from Rachel Coll on a penalty corner, before Grace Boston scored a goal to put the Terriers up 3-0
· With just 11 seconds left before halftime, Hammel put home another rebound to give Boston University a 4-0 lead.
· Early in the second half, freshman Lauren Ineson (Shrewsbury, Mass.) intercepted a pass in front of the Terriers' goal and knocked it home to make the score 4-1.
· Amanda Cassera and Boston would then add goals for Boston University later in the second half to conclude the scoring.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· Inch finished the night by making a career-high 11 saves.
· Ineson's goal was her fifth of the season, which now ties her for second on the team.
UP NEXT:
· The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, Oct. 11, when they play host to Cornell at 1:05 p.m.
