Field Hockey Suffers Setback At Bucknell On Saturday

  • The Lead: Bucknell's Nicole Rupnik and Kiersten Snydor each recorded a pair of goals to help lead the Bison to a 5-2 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League field hockey action on Saturday morning at Graham Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Bucknell broke the stalemate in the eighth minute (7:14), as Kelsy Kauffman send a pass from the right side to Rupnik who converted from in front of the cage to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.
  • The Bison increased their lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute (26:23). On a man-up opportunity, Snydor cleaned up a rebound in from of the cage off an initial shot by Stephanie Dressler.
  • Just over a minute later (27:27), Bucknell went up 3-0 on a penalty corner goal by Emily Goodloe with assists by Estelle Palandjian and Kayla Sullivan.
  • The Crusaders cut into the deficit less than four minutes into the second half (38:58), as sophomore Maureen Connolly (New Canaan, Conn.) converted a penalty stroke to make the score 3-1.
  • Snydor tallied her second marker of the contest in the 49th minute (48:31) to give the Bison the 4-1 advantage.
  • Bucknell added another tally in the 59th minute (58:27), as Rupnik recorded her second goal of the game off an assist by Sullivan.
  • Holy Cross registered a late goal in the contest, as senior Michelle McNeil (Canton, Mass.) scored off a rebound in the 65th minute (64:52) to make the score its final, 5-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross freshman goalkeeper Megan Inch (Perth, Scotland) made six saves, while Bucknell netminder Emily Finn tallied two stops.
  • Bucknell held the 15-7 edge in total shots and the 11-3 advantage in penalty corners.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The goal for Connolly was her seventh of the season and the 13th of her career. She leads Holy Cross with 20 points this season.
  • McNeil's goal was her third of the season and the eighth of her career.

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, when it travels to Easton, Pa. to take on Lafayette at 12:00 p.m.
