HOW IT HAPPENED
- No scoring occurred in the first period by either team as Holy Cross outshot Southern Maine 12-7.
- A majority of the scoring for the Crusaders came during the second period as Klimasewiski kicked it off with her 11th goal of the year. Receiving a pass from freshman Kara Violette (Biddeford, Maine) in Huskie territory, Klimasewiski broke away and drove the puck up the middle and slapped a wrist shot into the lower right corner of the net past Southern Maine goalie Lauren Bergstrom, putting the Crusaders up 1-0 (6:18).
- Southern Maine quickly answered the Crusaders with a goal of their own just 26 seconds later as Julia Pearl passed the puck from behind the net and found the stick of Katie Couture as she slipped the puck past senior goalie Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) to tie the game at 1-1 (6:44).
- The Crusaders got right back into the game on a goal by Lissner at 10:56 of the second period. Freshman Lauren Abbenante (Cranston, R.I.) had possession of the puck and centered the pass to Lissner as she found the back of the net past Bergstrom and put the Crusaders back on top, 2-1.
- Holy Cross struck for the third time with 51 seconds remaining on the clock in the second stanza on a goal by Boardman while the Crusaders were on the power-play. On a pass from sophomore Isabela Bagi (Branford, Conn.), she passed it up to Boardman who couldn't find the net at first. The puck then deflected off the foot of a Southern Maine defender to Klimasewiski as Boardman snuck the puck underneath Bergstrom to put the Crusaders up 3-1 to end the period (19:09).
- In the third period, Holy Cross began to run away with the game as they scored two more times.
- Senior Chelsea Monahan (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was credited with the assist on Reilly's goal as Bergstrom lost control of the puck in front of the net as Reilly was able to get her stick on the puck and put it in the net as Holy Cross took a three-goal advantage at 4-1 (1:55).
- Deflected off the skate of a Southern Maine defender, Giannino was able to find the puck and send it into the back of the net as Holy Cross increased their lead to four at 5-1 (6:42).
- The Huskies gave one last push to get back in the game, including one shot that saved on a dive by Stevenson, but the Crusaders were able to hold on and seal the 5-1 victory, improving their record to 11-4-1.
