  • The Lead: Colgate senior Eliana Brown tallied two goals to help lead the Raiders to a 3-0 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League field hockey action on Saturday morning. The contest was the conference opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Brown recorded the game's first goal in the third minute (2:40) off a penalty corner with assists coming from Rebecca Libutti and Jade Dennett.
  • Holy Cross had a chance on a penalty corner in the ninth minute, when sophomore Lauren Sutherland (Watertown, Mass.) ripped a shot on net, but Colgate goalkeeper Amanda DiDomizo made the stop.
  • The Crusaders had another chance to tie the game on a penalty corner in the 15th minute, but junior Colby Lohrey (West Simsbury, Conn.) rang the post with her shot.
  • Colgate went ahead 2-0 at the 25:20 mark of the contest, when Jessica Gardiner scored on a scramble in front of the net, off an assist by Whitney Jones.
  • Sutherland had another shot on goal during a penalty corner in the 59th minute, but DiDomizo made the save.
  • The Raiders registered the final goal of the game in the 62nd minute of action (61:46). Brown broke through on a breakaway and beat Crusader sophomore goalkeeper Maya Langman (Crozet, Va.) one-on-one to make the score its final, 3-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • DiDomizo earned the shutout win for Colgate with nine saves, while Langman and senior goalkeeper Kat Matchett (Maple Glen, Pa.) combined for five total stops for Holy Cross.
  • The Crusaders held the advantage in total shots (15-11) and shots on goal (9-8), while the Raiders led in penalty corners (10-9).

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 21, when it travels to Cornell for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
