The Lead: Three Crusaders set career-highs as the Holy Cross men's indoor track and field team opened 2014-2015 competition at the UMass Boston Indoor Open on Saturday morning. Sophomore Benjamin Ghiano (Iselin, N.J.) and classmate Seth Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) each finished seventh in their events with Ghiano crossing the finish line at a career-fastest time of 1:09.32 in the 500-meter run and Stokes recording a career-best height of 3.65 meters in the pole vault. Senior co-captain Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) posted a second place finish in the weight throw and recorded a career-best distance of 16.55 meters. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Other top finishers for the Crusaders included sophomore William Ward (North Attleboro, Mass.), who finished fifth in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.86 with freshman Nicholas Boire following, taking a ninth place finish (52.29) in his first collegiate race. 
• Junior Matt Luizzi (Albany, N.Y.) finished second in the 1,000-meter run, posting a time of 2:40.23. 
• In the one mile, senior Jake Griffin (Billerica, Mass.) posted the top finish for the Crusaders coming in 13th at 4:36.80. 
• The 4 x 400 relay team comprised of Griffin, junior James Harrison (Bronxville, N.Y.), Luizzi and Ghiano posted the top Holy Cross finish, crossing the finish line in seventh at 3:36.16. 
• In pole vault, sophomore Kyle Quinn (North Andover, Mass.) posted a first place finish at 4.10 meters with Stokes following in seventh at 3.65 meters. 
• Sophomore Fletcher Bonin (Portsmouth, R.I.) took a fifth place finish in the triple jump, recording a distance of 12.64 meters.

• The Crusaders return to the track on Saturday, Dec. 13 as they return to Roxbury, Mass. for the Jay Carisella Invitational.
