THE BASICS:

  • Score: Bryant 3, Holy Cross 1
  • Records: Bryant (3-7); Holy Cross (3-9)
  • Location: Worcester, Mass. (Hart Turf Field)
  • The Lead: Bryant sophomore forward Elena Borovskis tallied two goals, including the game-winner, to help lead the Bulldogs to a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross in non-conference field hockey action on Thursday evening at the Hart Turf Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross recorded the first goal of the contest in the sixth minute of action (5:37). Crusader freshman forward Maureen Connolly (New Canaan, Conn.) received a breakout pass at midfield and dribbled in on a breakaway. She deked Bryant goalkeeper Megan Hancock in the circle and put the ball in the back of the cage to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.
  • Bryant, however, responded just over nine minutes later (15:00). Off a penalty corner, Bronwyn Walton drove home a shot with assists by Mikayla Fitzmaurice and Bethany Winkin to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Borovskis scored her first goal of the contest in the 20th minute (19:58), as she redirected a pass from the left side by Victoria Danby past Crusader sophomore netminder Maya Langman (Crozet, Va.) to give Bryant the 2-1 lead.
  • The Bulldogs added an insurance marker in the 47th minute (46:42), as Borovskis put back a loose ball in the circle to make the score, 3-1.
  • The Crusaders tried to make a comeback late in the second half, as they had eight penalty corners and two shots on net after Bryant's third goal, but the Bulldog backline held strong to preserve the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Langman pushed aside two shots, while Hancock made five saves for the visitors.
  • Holy Cross held the advantage in total shots (11-6), shots on goal (6-5) and penalty corners (14-1).
