Stamford, Conn. – The women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie versus Manhattanville tonight from Terry Conners Rink in conference action. The Crusaders stand at 9-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in ECAC East play while the Valiants record is 6-8-2 and 4-2-1 in the conference
Freshman Erin Hall (Pembroke, Mass.) notched the first goal just five minutes into the game. Senior Devon Ball (Burlington, Ontario) paved the way for the assist and it was her first point of the season.
Thirty two seconds into the second period Junior Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead. Junior Rachel Miller (Jackson, Mich.) and junior Mary Klimasewiski (Cochester, Conn.) were credited with the assists. Manhattanville's Trenah Stauffer cut the deficit 2-1 with just under nine minutes to play in the second period. With nine seconds left Miller posted her second point of the night to give Holy Cross a 3-1 lead right before intermission with her fifth goal of the season. Through two periods the Crusaders held the edge on face-offs 22-20.
The Valiants came into the third period very strong as the offense kicked it into high gear. The Crusaders' Emily Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) was assessed a penalty for checking five minutes into the final stanza. With 6:40 into the game Manhattanville was able to post a goal on the power play by freshman Sydney Kinder. Michaela Murdock and Michele Meggiolaro earned the assists. A minute later senior Caitlyn Beauvais tied the game at 3-3 as Sydney Asselstine tallied the assist. The Valiants posted a total of 34 shots compared to Holy Cross who mustered 27 through 60 minutes of play.
This is the Crusaders first tie of the season and second time the team has gone into overtime.
Junior goaltender Alexandra Stevenson (Norwood, N.Y.) made 32 saves between the pipes as her record stands at 5-2-1. Freshman Dana DeMartino posted 27 saves on the night and holds a 3-3-1 mark.
The Crusaders have a quick turn-around as they hit the road against Nichols tomorrow evening in ECAC East action. Game time is slated for 7:40 p.m.
