WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior Brendan Flaherty and senior Kalif Raymond have been selected to the 2015 Division I All-New England football team, as announced by the New England Football Writers Association. Flaherty made the team at wide receiver, while Raymond was honored as a return specialist. They were among 31 players from around New England named to the squad, which will be honored at the New England Football Writers Banquet on Dec. 10 in Stoneham, Mass.
Flaherty was named first team All-Patriot League this year, after playing in all 11 games at wide receiver with 10 starts. He broke the Holy Cross and Patriot League single-season records with 106 receptions, to go along with 1,082 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches. Flaherty also rushed the ball eight times for 46 yards and two scores, and totaled 1,128 all-purpose yards. He led the Patriot League in receptions and receiving yards, while ranking second in scoring and seventh in all-purpose yards. During his collegiate career, Flaherty has now caught 138 passes for 1,414 yards and 13 scores.
Raymond earned first team All-Patriot League honors this year as both a wide receiver and a return specialist, after previously being named to the first team as a return specialist in 2012. He played in all 11 games at wide receiver this season, starting nine times and catching 74 passes for 978 yards and nine touchdowns. Raymond also returned 21 punts for 201 yards and a score, and 14 kickoffs for 335 yards and a touchdown, to finish the year with 1,543 all-purpose yards. Raymond ranked first in the Patriot League in punt returns; second in receiving yards, all-purpose yards and kickoff returns; third in receptions; and seventh in scoring. Over the course of his collegiate career, he caught 155 passes for 1,683 yards and 14 scores, while recording 4,059 all-purpose yards with 18 total touchdowns.
Holy Cross concluded the 2015 season with an overall record of 6-5, and placed fourth in the Patriot League with a 3-3 mark in conference games. The Crusaders finished with a winning record for the eighth time in Tom Gilmore's 12 years as head coach.
