Women's basketball to battle Navy in Patriot League showdown on Saturday

Winners of four straight, the Holy Cross women's basketball team is set to battle Navy on Saturday, Jan. 3 in Annapolis, Md. with opening tip slated for 1 p.m. at Alumni Hall. The game will air live on ESPN+.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (7-5, 1-0 Patriot League):
  • Senior Kaitlyn Flanagan sank a pair of free throws with 0:46 left to give the Crusaders the lead for good in a 58-55 victory over Bucknell to open Patriot League play on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Following a Bucknell miss on the ensuing possession, fellow senior Meg Cahalan drained two free throws of her own and Holy Cross forced an off-balance missed three as time expired to secure the victory.
  • Cahalan led the Crusaders with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting to go along with five assists, while Flanagan and senior Simone Foreman had 11 points apiece. Foreman also notched 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and 11th of her career.
  • The five assists for Cahalan matched a career-high that had previously been set on Nov. 13, 2024 at Brown.
  • In the victory, Holy Cross went a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and 15-of-16 (93.8%) for the game. Over their last five games, they are 53-of-61 (86.8%) from the free throw line.
  • Flanagan leads the conference in assists per game (4.1) and ranks second in assist/turnover ratio (2.6), while Cahalan is third in free throw percentage (78.9), tied for fifth in scoring (15.3) and seventh in field goal percentage (43.1).
  • Defensively, the Crusaders have allowed 65 points or less in seven straight games dating back to Nov. 25.
MATCHING UP WITH THE MIDSHIPMEN (7-5, 1-0 Patriot League):
  • Navy led wire-to-wire in a 77-64 win over Boston Univ. on Wednesday after outscoring the Terriers by a 25-12 margin in the opening stanza.
  • 21 BU turnovers led to 30 points for Navy in the victory.
  • Zanai Barnett-Gay led three Midshipmen in double figures with 18 points as Zoe Mesuch added 17 and Kate Samson had 16.
  • On the season, Barnett-Gay leads the team and ranks third in the Patriot League in scoring at 17.3 ppg. She also tops the team in rebounding (7.6 rpg), assists (3.9 apg) and steals (2.4 spg).
  • Mesuch checks in at 11.8 ppg for the Mids who boast the top scoring offense in the Patriot League at 69.8 ppg.
  • The Midshipmen had dropped four of their last five prior to the win over BU and is 5-2 at Alumni Hall this season.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Navy won two out of the three meetings in 2024-25, though the Crusaders notched a 66-52 win over the Midshipmen in the Patriot League quarterfinals on Mar. 10 in Annapolis. Five different players scored in double figures for Holy Cross in the victory led by 19 from Lindsay Berger and 15 from then-sophomore Kendall Eddy.
  • The Crusaders hold a 50-26 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to 1992.
