Lyons breaks own program record in 1,000 meters to lead men's track & field at Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Liam Lyons broke his own program record and won the 1,000 meters to lead the efforts for the Holy Cross men's track & field team on Sunday at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational that was held at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Lyons won the 1,000 meters as he clocked a time of 2:19.31, winning the event by nearly eight seconds and surpassing his previous program-record time of 2:21.16 that had been set on Feb. 14, 2025.
  • Sophomore Jack Larkin notched a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 15:08.35 and junior Joseph Mahon took second in the mile in 4:12.37.
  • Elsewhere for the Crusaders, sophomore Josh Gentchos registered a pair of top-five finishes in the 200 meter dash (3rd, 22.02) and the 60 meter dash (4th, 7.03).
  • Fellow sophomore Iain DeBoth finished fifth in the 200 with a personal-best time of 22.14 seconds, surpassing his previous-best indoor time of 22.31 that had been set on Feb. 14, 2025.
  • Senior Tristan Miller added a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 49.48 seconds and junior Logan Mott placed eighth in 51.03.
  • A trio of Crusaders finished among the top seven in the 3,000 meters with sophomore Lewis O'Connor (3rd, 8:39.37), junior Thomas Speltz (6th, 8:40.70) and junior Quinn Salmon (7th, 8:40.97). Each of their times marked a new personal-best.
  • The quartet of Mott, junior Luke Boothroyd, freshman Willem Martino and Miller placed third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:22.52.
  • In the field events, freshman Jake Baker won the weight throw for the second consecutive day and registered a new personal-best mark of 17.37m.
  • Junior Michel Mondesir captured first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.95m.

  • Holy Cross is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 31 for the John Thomas Terrier Classic that will be hosted by Boston University.
