Three from men’s track and field named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Senior Liam Lyons, junior Joseph Mahon and sophomore Josh Gentchos of the Holy Cross men's track and field team were named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team announced by the organization on Tuesday, June 23.

Lyons, an international studies and philosophy double major, posted a 3.59 cumulative GPA through the spring semester of his senior year. He also earned recognition on the 2026 Academic All-Patriot League Team and was also named to the First Team All-Patriot League.

Lyons was recognized as the 2026 men's Crusader of the Year, the most prestigious award presented to a Holy Cross student-athlete, at the annual Crusader Awards. He holds school records in the 1,000m, 1,500m, mile, and 3,000m. Lyons secured a top 15 finish at the 2025 Patriot League Cross Country Championships and earned two medals at the 2026 Patriot League Indoor Championships. He earned second team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League in cross country and indoor track.

Lyons earned First Team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League honors after winning gold in the 1,500m at the Patriot League Championships on May 17, clocking a time of 3:40.76 which broke both the league's meet record as well as the facility record at Navy's Ingram Field.

Lyons placed 21st in the 1500m first round with a time of 3:44.85. Lyons is the first Crusader to represent Holy Cross men's track and field at the NCAA East First Round in back-to-back seasons since Nathaniel Couture '08, who competed in the javelin in 2006 and 2007.

He is also one of just three student-athletes from the program to qualify for the NCAA East First Round since the turn of the century, along with Gabe Piepergerdes '21 (400m hurdles) and Couture (javelin). Lyons finished 42nd in the 1,500m at the 2025 NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville, Fla., posting a time of 3:46.63.

Mahon, a computer science major, posted a 3.51 cumulative GPA through the spring semester of his senior year. He also earned the silver medal in the 5,000m (14:34.74) at the Patriot League Championships (May 16-17).

Mahon turned in an incredible performance in the 5,000m at Duke Twilight (May 4), becoming the first runner in program history to break 14 minutes in the 5K. His record time of 13:54.70 surpassed previous record holder Mark Murray's 1978 time of 14:18.02.

Gentchos, a chemistry major, posted a 3.61 cumulative GPA through the spring semester of his sophomore year. He finished seventh in the 100m dash final (10.54) at the Patriot League Championships (May 17).

Gentchos reset his school records in the 100m dash (10.50, Apr. 4) and 20m dash (21.57, Apr. 18).
