Mokonchu, Sachs lead women's track & field at URI Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Ester Mokonchu and junior Bridget Sachs notched individual event victories to lead the efforts for the Holy Cross women's track & field team at the URI Invitational on Saturday.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

Sachs won the pole vault with a mark of 3.81m as she cleared the height on her first attempt and junior Shannon Briseno took fifth at 3.51m. The victory was the first of Sachs' young career.
Mokonchu captured first place in the weight throw for the first time in her career with a mark of 15.47m and led three Crusaders in the top five as Lily Deforge took third (14.30m) and freshman Maddie Goncalves placed fifth (14.03m).
Goncalves led the way for the Crusaders with a second-place finish in the shot put at 12.57m, junior Gabby Paolella finished third with a mark of 12.11m and Deforge took fourth at 12.03m.
On the track, sophomore Abby Desmarais finished third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.79 seconds and senior Giavanna Ciaravino took seventh in 8.02.
A trio of Crusaders finished in the top seven in the 1,000 meters with senior Alex Lusby (2^nd, 2:60.00), senior Fiona Doherty (5^th, 3:04.00) and junior Annabel Murray (7^th, 3:05.84).
Murray's time marked a personal-best, surpassing her previous top time of 3:08.19 that had been set at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 7, 2024.
Freshman Macie Salado placed seventh in the 500 meters with a time of 1:23.24.

Holy Cross is right back in action tomorrow for the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational that will get underway at 9:30 a.m.
